Events of today

Well I am not going to Frankfurt for the Bookfair.  The publisher is going to view my book for me so hopefully we will have some advance sales.

My next task that is scheduled is the book cover.  I want to design the cover myself, of course with the help of the publisher.  I have a artist helping me.  Hopefully we can get this moving and be ready for the printing process.

Iraq-Heroes and More

I received feedback from my publisher regarding the book.  Of course, there are upgrades they would like to include in the book, but they did give me an overall review that says:

Summary:  David, you write from the tight, well-informed perspective of one who has ‘been there, done that’ and that adds power, substance, and a convincing perspective to your manuscript. You tell a tale that needs to be told and heard and you have accomplished that very well.

Don’t Cry for Me

Don’t Cry for Me –  I was born rich with love, warm with loving parents.    My life has been driven by a passion to explore the world. Meet people and learn of different ways to fulfill life’s needs.    Traveling throughout different parts of the world taught me not to rely on first impressions of people or situations.  A person with messy hair and with a obscene aroma can have a big heart and a marvelous personality.  The color of one’s skin, either light or dark has no bearing on the persons willingness to inspire others or to teach another person important lessons of life.

Don’t Cry for Me – Everyday is full of opportunities to live, learn, love and inspire yourself, as well as others.  Make everyday a day filled with hope, excitement, and fulfillment.

Don’t Cry for Me- Luck is always good luck, never bad.  Never believe in bad luck or the fact that you cannot make your own luck.  Take control of the moment, hour, day and your life.  Know what you want out of life and make it happen, focus, endure, enjoy each day of your life.

Don’t Cry for Me – Remember never hate.  Love everyone and make them believe they are important, because they are.  All of God’s children are important and has a purpose in life, whether they know it or not.

Don’t Cry for Me- Give back to others for the success given to you.  Purchase additional food to give to the food bank.  Listen to the trouble of others with a non-condemning ear.  Hug the person in distress.  Wipe the tears from the eyes of the child whether they are nine or ninety, all God’s children.

Don’t Cry for Me – Respect one another and love each others similarities as well as oddness.

Don’t Cry for Me – Love the Lord and follow the Ten Commandments – they are the only rules you need in life.

Don’t Cry for Me – Make your life easy, fun, and fruitful.  Don’t make it complicated.  Forget the drama and love the life given to you.  Respect one another.

Enrich Our Lives

Enrich your life every day with positive affirmations. These can be as simple as:
1. I am an incredibly creative person and my success is growing every day;
2. I am a beautiful, healthy and happy person and my wonderful life is unfolding before me;
3. Opportunities to be successful and abundant are manifesting every day in my life as I move closer to my dream of success and prosperity.

We all have an abundant life when we are positive and like ourselves. Our abilities are great and our accomplishments are unlimited.

Frankfurt Book Fair 6-10 October 2010

We plan to go to the Frankfurt Book Fair 6 thru 10 October 2010.  The goal for us is to learn, learn, learn.  ‘Heroes and More’ being my first book, we have no idea how to market the book.  The publisher provides opportunities to highlight the book at these functions.

The rights for foreign languages and also the screen rights are available.  The foreign languages rights are for the entire book (s).  The screenplay rights will be for each book, ‘Exit Iraq” and ‘Tyrants of Tikrit’.  Both should make  dynamite movies.  Both books are similar action, thrillers as ‘The Hurt Locker’, directed by Kathryn Bigelow.  Hopefully, Frankfurt Book fair will afford good writers for a screenplay and also foreign publishers to print the book in other languages.  I am interested in the major foreign languages, Spanish, German, Arabic, Chinese and any others with a population of avid readers.

“My Little Girl”

My Little Girl, Oh, what yu mean to me

God gave you to your mother and me, when we were young.

We are growing with you.

We nurse you when you are sick

We discipline you when we need to,

but we always love you.

My Little Girl, Oh what you mean to me.

Your long, pretty hair blowing in the wind

reminds me of the free spirit in all of us.

Your brown eyes reminds me of the trees

in autumn that God has put a special touch on.

Your smile puts happiness in my heart.

My Little Girl, Oh what you mean to me

pride fills my heart when I think of you.

You have given me a reason for life.

My Daughter, you are the sun in my life.

I love you.

A Writer’s Serenity Prayer

 A Writer’s Serenity Prayer

  (author unknown)
The harder I try, the more I do.

I can’t help everyone, and I have to realize that it isn’t my job to. People looking for easy answers aren’t ever going to get what they desire.

No one is entitled to anything. There’s work, and luck, but deserve is a dangerous, unhealthy word.

I should never compare myself to others. It’s better to compare what I did today with what I did yesterday. Then I can plan for tomorrow accordingly.

If I’m not making mistakes, it means I’m not taking chances.

The only aspect of my career that I have complete control over is my writing. If I don’t love that, I should do something else with my time.

Everyone has an opinion. All opinions are valid. But that does not mean all opinions have to matter to me.

I can take time off and the world won’t stop spinning.

The worst day spent writing is better than the best day doing anything else. Writers write. Drama queens complain.

I know that I probably won’t change your mind. But that isn’t my goal. My goal is to learn enough, try enough, and experience enough, so I can change my mind and be able to defend that change.

If I can live my dream and make a buck doing so, I have no right to be anything other than happy.

About David W. Mays

About the Author

David is married to Sheryl and they have two grown children, Greg and Cindy, and four grand children, Hailey, Damon, Garrett and Maci.  David was born in the Midwest, Kansas, and raised in Nebraska.  Soon after his high school graduation, 1964, he joined the Air Force for a four year tour in Texas.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics 1990 from the University of Texas at Arlington.   It took twenty-five years to obtain his degree due to his life long dream to explore different lands and learn about civilizations, cultures and people from foreign countries.   The Air Force never moved David overseas; in fact, he did not leave Texas.  It was not until 1977 that he began working as a civilian overseas.  His overseas experiences include seventeen years in Saudi Arabia, one year at Guantanamo Bay, one year in Jordan, and three years in Iraq.

The three years working in Iraq precipitated the books in ‘Hero’s and More’.  There were so many trials and tribulations for the Iraqi people inside Iraq that it had to be told in a book.  Although this book is pure fiction these types of incidents could and did happen in Iraq.
